Young stars of Sasensky School of Piano to perform
On December 15 at 6 p.m., the BMICH’s Kamatha Hall will resonate with the delightful sounds of piano performed by the talented young students of The Sasensky School of Piano, which proudly presents “Best of the Best 2023”. Nurturing aspiring pianists for the past 16 years, the school takes pride in celebrating the skills of its students who have performed exceptionally at professional level examinations, which will be the highlight of the show.
From distinctions to island prize winners, the students will in addition to performing, receive their hard won medals and trophies. “Witnessing the progress of my students and being a part of their musical journey is incredibly rewarding,” says Shashi De Silva, founder and director of the academy.
“The school was built upon the unwavering belief in the transformative power of piano education,” Sashi says, adding that her deep love for music and passion for the piano was the driving force. Currently an Associate of the Trinity College of London, Shashi’s own musical journey began aged four. Throughout grade school, having competed in music festivals and participated in youth symphonies, she was immersed in music.
Her teaching endeavour began with tending to her neighbour’s two children, which she says was a wonderful and fulfilling experience. “It not only brought me immense joy and satisfaction but also underscored the realization that I could share my passion for music with others while fostering a sense of community and connection with those around me.”
Her school is now over 200 students strong, backed by a staff of accomplished teachers and has branched out in three locations: Mirihana, Colombo 6 and Pelawatte, with plans underway to open a fourth centre in the very near future. They also have an online presence with students from UK, Canada, Australia, Qatar, and UAE attending lessons virtually.
The introduction of the Trinity College London Rock and Pop curriculum aims to provide students with the chance to connect to their favourite genres of music.
With a diverse selection including a mix of genres, styles, and classics, the show also presents a range from easier pieces to the more challenging classical, solos to duets. A few Rs 2000 tickets are currently available and can be purchased by contacting 076 967 9777 or 077 341 9719.
