Elite Taekwondo Club celebrated its 18th year anniversary with a friendly tournament at the Royal MAS Arena at Rajakeeya Mawatha in Colombo. Headed by its President and Chief Instructor, Asitha Wickramatunga, the competition was held on November 26 with the participation of all athletes of Elite Taekwondo Club.

After a full day of competition and camaraderie, Rashith Fernando emerged the Best Athlete among boys while Juliyana Arnolda became the Best Athlete among girls. The full day event was keenly participated by athletes of all age categories from all five branches of Elite Taekwondo Club, located in Colombo, Battaramulla, Negombo, Biyagama and Raddolugama with Asanga Wickramatunga assisting the programme as the Senior Instructor.

Elite Taekwondo Club is a premiere martial arts club in Sri Lanka with a history of 18 years and have won more than 200 medals during the past two years, despite the challenges by the pandemic and the economic crisis.

“We provide a wide range of sports and recreation programmes for the benefit of the society, providing sportsmanship, fitness, talent development, self defence and women’s empowerment. Currently we have five branches across the Western Province and our main objective is to nurture Olympic medalists and world champions for Sri Lanka,” stated Asitha Wickramatunga, the President and Chief Instructor of the club.

Following the programme and competitions, an awards presentation ceremony was held under the patronage of James Barber, the Chief Financial Officer of the US Embassy in Colombo, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Christian Skoog, the Representative for UNICEF in Sri Lanka also graced the awards ceremony as the guest of honour.
