Pera Uni security chief sent home
View(s):The Council of the University of Peradeniya had decided to send its Chief Security Officer N K Sooriyabandara on compulsory leave under section19.7 of Chapter XIV of the establishment code of the UGC and Education Institutions, after a preliminary investigation.
The report says that there is continuous antagonism and tension in the Security Division of which Sooriyabandara is the Head; and in the current situation, it could lead to a tragic situation.
Vice Chancellor Professor M D Lamawansa, in a letter, ordered Mr Sooriyabandara not to enter any building of the University without his approval or the Acting Registrar of the University, except to enter his official quarters.
The letter points out that he has not been able to work in a conducive way with other members of the staff though he had been continually advised about this.
The letter states that the University work is hampered as disputes are commonly brought before the administration.
