Two days of intense rain led to the opening of 16 sluice gates at Tabbowa Reservoir, said Tabbowa Regional Irrigation Engineer Lakshitha Beligammana.
Irrigation officials warn of grave danger due to the opening of four sluice gates, which released a massive volume of water of around 6230 cubic feet a second into Nari Oya.
Eng. Beligammana said out of the 20 sluice gates in Tabbowa Reservoir, 16 have been opened, and the remaining four sluice gates might also be opened due to the heavy rains.
