‘Thaththa’- ‘A Father: Film on father’s love

Prasad Samarathunga’s latest film ‘Thaththa’ (A Father), an emotional tale about son and a father relationship is now being screened in theatres.
Produced by Rushantha Wijenayaka, the film stars Kumara Thirimadura, Nilmini Thennakone, Thisev Sathsilu Wijenayaka, Oneli Himahansi, Kusheya Anagi, Kumara Waduressa, Rushantha Wijenayaka, Sanath Rathnayake, Simethi Akila, Upul Weerasinghe, Sannet Dikkumbura and Upul Nishantha.
Revolving around a 10-year-old boy who’s being punished by his father and decides to avenge him (father), ‘Thaththa’ narrates about the deep love a father could have on his children.
Ten-year old Ruwan lives with his mother and father Ratnapala who is a day labourer. Ratnapala punishes his son regularly which turns out to be a mental torture for young Ruwan who develops a hatred towards his father.
One day Kalu mudalali, a rich man in the area assigns Ratnapala to clean one of his stores. Mudalali opens the door of the store for Ratnapala to clean and Ruwan who awaits a chance to get rid of his father locks him inside and runs back home. He keeps this as a secret but throughout the day it disturbs him and sometimes he feels the need of his father. Finally he confesses to his mother what he had done to his father and both run to rescue Ratnapala. Would they be too late and what would have happened to Ratnapala-Thaththa?
Screenplay written by Lalith Warnapriya and Prasad himself, director of photography is Sisikirana Paranavithana, editor is Shan Alwis, music director is Dinesh Subasinghe and sound designer and miser is Shashen.
Art director and costume designer is Geethani Senevirathne and make up by Tharaka Adhikari.
