Chandana, Kandambi to join national coaching setup
Former cricketers Upul Chandana and Thilina Kandambi will join the Sri Lanka national team coaching staff for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Chandana will work with fielding coach Anton Roux to improve the team’s fielding standards. Sri Lanka’s fielding performance in the World Cup was subpar, with the team recording the highest percentage of dropped catches. They missed 16 catches in nine games, impacting the team’s overall performance in the tournament.
In response to this,
Sri Lanka Cricket Consultant Sanath Jayasuriya has recommended Chandana, a former excellent fielder and current SLC fielding coach, to join the national team for the Zimbabwe series starting on January 6, 2024.
Kandambi will take over as the team’s batting coach, replacing Naveed Nawaz. Nawaz will continue as the assistant coach, while Kandambi will assume the role of batting coach. Additionally, well-known trainer Dilshan Fonseka will join as the team’s trainer.
