Rajarata Uni launches sustainability drive
View(s):The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka has launched its new sustainability webpage to showcase the University’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
The webpage and pledge aim to engage the university community on the importance of sustainability, and encourage individuals to take action towards a greener future.
Advisor, Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs) G A S Ginigaddara expressed enthusiasm for the launch of the sustainability webpage and pledge, stating, “As an institution of higher education, we must lead by example and prioritise sustainability. Our new webpage and pledge provide a platform for our community to come together, learn, and take action towards a more sustainable future. By making small changes in our daily lives, we can collectively make a significant impact on the environment.”

The webpage serves as a comprehensive resource hub for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community. It highlights 17 sustainable development goals of the University of Sri Lanka namely, no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals.
The webpage will highlight success stories of the university’s sustainability efforts, inspiring others to follow suit.
Rajarata University is also introducing a sustainability pledge, inviting all members of the university community to make a personal commitment to sustainable living. By signing the pledge, individuals pledge to adopt sustainable practices. The pledge serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we all have in preserving the planet for future generations.
The Rajarata University collaborates with 16 government and non-government organisations in many projects on the sustainable development goals.
Several sustainability projects were implemented by the Rajarata University from 2019 to 2023.
