Sineth and Ranithma win U-19 Singles titles at 71st National Badminton Championship
View(s):Sineth Manthuka Rupathunga won the Under-19 Boys Singles title, while Ranithma Liyanage claimed the Girls’ Singles title in the same age group at the 71st National Badminton Championship organised by Sri Lanka Badminton. The tournament was held at the Sri Lanka Badminton courts, Mercantile Badminton courts and D.S. Senanayake College courts simultaneously.
Sineth Manthuka defeated Senuk Somarathne 22-20 and 24-22 in the final of Under-19 Boys Singles category. In the Under-19 Girls’ Singles final, Ranithma Liyanage beat Praveena Wijesundara by 21-13 and 21-6.
Sineth, who won the Singles title, also managed to win the Doubles title in the Under-19 age group together with Sajid Majid by defeating Achintha Imesha and Pasindu by 21-17, 22-24 and 21-17 points. The Girls’ Doubles title in the same age group was won by Dasithma Luthuli and Sithuki Onadi, who defeated Inushi Amandi and Praveena Wijesundara by 16-21, 21-14 and 21-17.
Roshan Harith defeated Hiruka Sahanmith 21-11, 11-21 and 21-11 to win the Under-17 Boys Singles title, while Dilini Ambalangodage defeated Ranumi Maanage by 21-18 and 21-19 to win the Girls’ Singles title.
Sanuda Ariyasinghe and Thisath Ranthuka defeated Rithira Abeygunawardane and Thenul Rasanjana by 19-21, 21-13 and 21-17 to win the Under-17 Boys Doubles title. Dilini Ambalangodage and Sandithi Dewmini teamed up to beat Thiseja Herath and Ranumi Suahasni by 21-17 and 21-12 to win the Girls’ Doubles title in the same age group.
The Under-15 Boys Singles title was won by Senuth Sethmina who beat Kennath Arukkgoda by 21-8 and 21-17. Both Sethmina and Arukkgoda paired up to secure the Boys Doubles title in the same age group beating Buddhi Shenal and Dinew Wimalarathne by 21-15 and 21-12. The Under-15 Girls’ Singles title was won by Vishwanie Wanniarachchi, who overcame Nethmi Amaya by 21-19 and 21-12. Isuri Bhagya Attanayake and Sithumi Minara de Silva teamed up to beat Sandaruvi Jayalath and Ralindi Umagaliya by 11-21, 21-19 and 21-16 to win the Girls’ Doubles title in the same age group.
In the Under-13 Boys Singles, Thamindu Fernando defeated Yasmith Ganepola by 15-7 and 15-5 points to win the final. Sasandhi Guruge defeated Yenuli Liyanage by 15-5 and 15-5 to win the Girls’ Singles title in the same age group. The Boys Doubles title was won by Thamindu Fernando and Senuda Nethila who beat Anuka Kadahettige and Pritish Yasasa by 15-11 and 15-3. Sasandi Guruge and Manuli Varavitage beat Yenuli Liyanage and Thisuri Shakya by 15-7, 12-15 and 15-10 to win the Girls’ Doubles title in the same age group.
Hansaka Rashminda defeated Prasad Weerasinghe by 15-7 and 15-13 to win the Under-11 Boys Singles title, while Sanumi Methnara won the Girls’ Singles title beating Vithsadi Kaushalya by 15-5 and 15-4. The Boys Doubles title in the same age group was won by Hirushan Jayawardena and Navithu, who defeated Hiruth Fernando and Danula Kumara by 17-15 and 21-19. Reshini Prashansa and Vithsadi Kaushalya beat Risindi Akithya and Fathima Ishaq by 6-15, 15-13 and 15-12 to claim the Girls’ Doubles title in the same age group.
