Third win for S. Thomas’
View(s):Pacemen Kavindu Dias and Abheeth Paranavidana combined for S. Thomas’ College to coast to a convincing innings and 128-run win over St. Benedict’s College in their Under-19 Inter-School cricket encounter concluded at Kotahena yesterday.
The pair shared 12 wickets between them with right-arm paceman Dias bagging five scalps after the Bens resumed from their overnight score of 47-1, only to have them bowled out for 155 runs. This was after the Thomians piled up a formidable score of 353-3 before declaring. This massive total came on the backs of unbeaten tons made by Mahith Perera (151) and Dineth Gunawardena (150), who got together to share a record unbroken stand of 306 runs for the fourth wicket.
St. Benedict’s was forced to follow on with a deficit of 198 runs to erase and innings defeat and found Paranavidana too hot to handle as his four wicket haul sent the Bens reeling for a low score of 70 runs. With this the Thomians chalked up their third outright win.
