Zahira College Rugby partners with Leicester Tigers Club of UK as Global Partner
View(s):Zahira College initiated the Global Partner Network with Leicester Tigers Club of the United Kingdom as the newest addition from Sri Lanka. The club launched the programme to support rugby’s global expansion by establishing long-term links among players, partners, and communities.
The collaboration will facilitate rugby camps and coaching sessions in Sri Lanka, paving the opportunity for Sri Lankan players and coaches to interact with Leicester, the United Kingdom, and the Tigers’ Global Partner Club Network. Currently the programme includes KL Tigers of Malaysia, Dendermonde of Belgium, Colorno of Italy, RC Diok of Holland, BK Lions of Thailand and Delhi Hurricanes of India.
Zahira College rugby is set to commemorate its centenary this year as one of the first few schools in Sri Lanka that began to play rugby way back in 1924. This collaboration is one of the celebration’s attempts to further boost the school’s rugby prowess.
In addition, an International Schools Rugby 7s Tournament is planned for March 2024, with the participation of overseas teams, primarily from the United Kingdom. Zahira Rugby will partner with Sri Lanka Tourism to promote our country’s tourism sector during the international tournament.
The Tigers’ Global Partner Club Network partnership was officially announced on December 31, during the halftime interval of the Gallagher Premiership match between Tigers and Bath Rugby in front of 26,000 spectators, with the participation of representatives from both Zahira College and Leicester Tigers.
