A world- renowned violin virtuoso, Dr. Ambi Subramanium, will be performing at a live in concert in Sri Lanka on 18th January, 2024 at the Gymnasium of the University of Peradeniya. He will be accompanied by Akshay Anantapadmanabhan on Mridangam and Vaadhya Nipun Upula Madushanka on Thabla.

Dr. Ambi Subramanium will be visiting Sri Lanka from 17th to 22nd January 2024 offering a unique opportunity to Sri Lankan music lovers including a musical workshop for undergraduates following in Hindustani and Karnataka music at the Peradeniya University on 18th at 1.30pm and a panel discussion on 19th organized by Koushalya Wickremasinghe of Siddhivinayak Cine Arts. He has set aside opportunities to perform during his visit, exchange cultures with local musicians, and share his extensive experience with undergraduate students.

Dr. Ambi Subramanium is the beloved son of the veteran Pandit L. Subramaniam, who was dubbed the ‘Father of Violin of India’ and mesmerised his audience with his violin ravings. Although Pandit Subramaniam was born in Sri Lanka, he migrated to India due to the unrest in Jaffna at that time, resulting in a great loss of fame, pride, and a unique classical musical heritage that our country could have through his outstanding musical ability.
The Sri Lankans can now witness his son Dr. Ambi Subramaniam’s artistry with spellbinding classical and innovative collaborations during his stay.

‘We believe that his performances will not only mesmerise the Sri Lankan audiences but also inspire a new generation of musicians in the country’ said Professor M D Lamawansa, Vice – Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.

Ambi Subramanium (born 5 August 1991 Los Angeles, California, United States) is a violinist, composer, and educator. He started performing on stage when he was six years old and was described as the ‘new king of Indian classical violin’ by the Times of India. Ambi is the Associate Dean of the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SaPa), an institute that trains musically inclined children to become professional performers.
