Nayana fills vacancy
View(s):Nayana Wasalathilaka was sworn in as a Member of the 9th Parliament on Friday (12) following the resignation of Badulla District Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri.
Mr Wasalathilaka was educated at St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela. He pursued a Culinary Arts Degree and Business Management Degree in Switzerland. He has several years of experience as a chef at a leading hotel in Australia as well as in Sri Lanka. As an entrepreneur he owns several local and foreign businesses, including a caravan manufacturing business based in Melbourne.
He entered active politics in 2015 representing the United National Party and secured 31,307 votes from the Badulla District representing the SJB, at the 2020 General Election.
Mr Wasalathilaka is a major financier of the SJB and is also a close relative of Jalani Premadasa, wife of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
