KALA – a platform for South Asian Art in collaboration with the Lionel Wendt Art Centre will launch its inaugural exhibition ‘Pivot Glide Echo’ from January 29 to February 25 at the Lionel Wendt Art Centre.

Inviting artists and practitioners from South Asia and the South Asian Diaspora, the exhibition that spans eight decades of art will feature the works of Lionel Wendt, George Claessen, George Keyt, Ivan Peries, L. T. P. Manjusri, H. A. Karunaratne, Kingsley Gunatillake, Raki Nikahetiya, Mahen Perera, Liz Fernando, Sebastian Posingis, Muhanned Cader, Saskia Pintelon, Rupaneethan Pakkiyarajah, Anoli Perera, Vasantha Yoganathan, Cassie Machado, Kavan Balasuriya and Muvindu Binoy.

At the press conference announcing the launch on January 9, Founding Director of KALA Saskia Fernando introduced KALA as “South Asia’s newest platform that aims to build bridges across the South Asian region by focusing on the development of the art scene in Sri Lanka.”

The head table included Manager, Communications and Digital Marketing of Paradise Group of Companies Danel Goonawardena, Chairman of the Lionel Wendt Memorial Fund Ranil Pieris, Saskia Fernando, Director Marketing at Cinnamon Life Integrated Resort Radiesha Daluwatte, Chief Executive Officer of CAL Kanishke Mannakkara and Chief Executive Officer of Chatham Luxury Watches Indrajith Ranawara.

KALA is curated by Assistant Curator Mariyam Begum under the guidance of Curatorial Advisor Sandhini Poddar, Adjunct Curator of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum and Assistant Curator Mariam Begum.

Talks, workshops and more events  curated by the Art South Asia Project – a UK based art education and development nonprofit organisation with representatives of local institutions including the Bawa Trust and Sapumal Foundation will also take place from January 29 to February 25.
