Renown ‘4v4 Goal Rush 2K23’, a great success
View(s):For the first time in Sri Lanka a 4-a-side tournament for kids under the theme ‘4v4 Goal Rush 2K23’ was held during December at Racecourse International Ground in Colombo. It was organised by Renown Football Academy, the leading football academy in Sri Lanka.
They conducted the small sided games as it helps in the development of the kids as the children have the freedom to play, are more involved in the game, get more touches of the ball and have to make more decisions and learn quickly.
Boy and Girls in the Under-8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 age groups participated in the tournament whereas kids in the 3 to 6 age group participated in a series of fun games. Apart from kids in Colombo, youngsters who are part of the Renown academies in Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Ratnapura and Galle also participated in the event.
The President of Renown Football Academy, Sritharan Peeris, stated that they conducted the small-sided games as it helps in the development of the kids as the children have the freedom to play, more involved in the game, get more touches of the ball and have to make more decisions and learn quickly. In fact the tournament was held under the theme ‘Goal Rush’ as children will get more opportunities to score goals.
Renown is a name synonymous with junior football development in Sri Lanka. They sponsor most of the school football tournaments and run free academies for girls in Jaffna, Polonnaruwa and Matale in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Renown had also invited children from SL Dragons Academy from Galle to participate in a series of matches in the Under-10, 12 and 14 age groups. SL Dragons was initiated by Greg from England seven years back and is presently coached by Albier, a Renown FC player from Egypt. SL Dragons has children from numerous nationalities including England, Switzerland, Holland, Norway and Germany.
This series of match gave opportunities to kids from different cultures to learn about each other and make friends. The tournament played in a carnival atmosphere, was powered by Milo. The feedback of the kids, parents and fans was that this format of the tournament was a great success.
