WNPS lecture: Elephants in the anthropocene – Conservation of the Asian elephant in today’s world
View(s):Dr Sreedhar Vijayakrishnan will deliver this month’s Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS) lecture on the subject ‘Elephants in the Anthropocene – Conservation of the Asian Elephant in Today’s World’ on Thursday, January 18 at 6 pm at the Jasmine Hall, BMICH.
Increasing demand for natural resources globally has intensified anthropogenic pressures on our environment, further resulting in the loss and widespread fragmentation of natural habitats. There is a dire need for species exposed to such pressures to adapt to these changing ecologies in order to ensure their survival. This is important in the context of managing the problem of human–elephant conflict.
Dr Sreedhar will share his experiences studying Asian elephants across different landscapes, while also discussing the various (conflict) management strategies adopted in each of these areas.
Currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Conservation and Research, he is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Asian Elephant Specialist Group.
The lecture is open to both members and non-members, entrance free.
