Improved meteorological observation tower increases climate research capabilities
View(s):The China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CSL-CER) at the University of Ruhuna (UoR) has re-established a meteorological observation tower, increasing climate research capabilities.
The construction and sensor implementation of the tower met the requirements of the technical competence from the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department and the University of Ruhuna.
Sensors on the tower will gather meteorological data such as humidity, CO2 levels, wind direction and speed, rainfall, temperature, radiance, and albedo.
It has a capacity to deliver precise and up-to-date data for climate monitoring and research. Numerous applications, including climate change research and weather forecasting, will benefit from this data.
To promote international cooperation in addressing global environmental concerns, the project combines the resources and experience of experts from China and Sri Lanka.
The CSL-CER is an open platform welcoming scientists from all over the world.
