Sri Lankan envoy meets Thailand minister to discuss collaboration
View(s):Sri Lanka and Thailand have discussed the possibility of establishing a Thai Language centre and a Sinhala language centre, respectively, in the two countries.
The discussion took place when the Ambassador of Sri Lanka and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, C A Chaminda I Colonne paid a courtesy call on newly-appointed Minister of Culture of Thailand, Sermsak Pongpanich at the Ministry of Culture of Thailand.
Both discussed in detail the establishing of language centres, the possibilities of providing a suitable location to establish a Sri Lankan corner to showcase Sri Lankan arts, literature, etc, and providing training programmes for schoolchildren to upgrade their drama skills.
They also discussed setting up performing arts at Thai cultural centres, creation of a documentary in Sinhala, Thai, Lao and Khmer languages on historical places in Theravada countries including Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.
They talked about implementing a bilateral cultural agreement, signed in 1981, facilitating long-term and short-term scholarship programmes, exchange programmes of professors, scholars and members of cultural and art institutions, and scholarships for the Sanga and other religious dignitaries.
They also exchanged views on a series of events in 2025 to celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishment of formal diplomatic relations between two countries.
