Harmony for Little Hearts -  a musical evening by the brothers Rukshan and Melantha Perera is where passion entwines with purpose. The proceeds from the concert will be directed towards the construction of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital’s Cardiac and Critical Care Complex.

After making their mark in the world of music in their distinct ways, Rukshan and Melantha come together for this worthy cause on Saturday, February 3 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.

We caught up with the musical Brothers to hear more about the concert and what it means to them. Born to a musical family in Moratuwa, the brothers fondly reminisce about their mother’s music lessons being where their love for music blossomed, prompting their musical journeys which took them on different paths.

Composer, director, multi-instrumentalist and singer, Rukshan performed as a schoolboy with maestro Clarence Wijewardena and the award-winning pop band The Super Golden Chimes back in the seventies. He has performed in more than a dozen countries at international music festivals and jazz festivals and is well known for “scatting” on stage.

His equally talented brother, Melantha toured with the band Mirage for decades in Europe and Asia and has performed in several countries around the world. Melantha launched a new easy-to-follow musical notation system called ‘MELANOTA’ and has copyrighted it in the USA and received ISO certification from Australia. He is currently conducting music lessons for the blind and says a concert done by them in the future is something to look out for.

The Perera Brothers are excited to be performing songs from the ‘60s up until the ‘90s from well-known artists such as Beatles, Bee Gees, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Santana as well as some beloved Sinhala hits. They will also perform their own compositions including a song especially composed by Rukshan for this charity event carrying a heartwarming message to the listener.

In Sri Lanka, nearly 3000 infants die before they reach their first birthday due to congenital heart disease (CHD) and other critical illnesses. However, with proper resources, this number can be significantly reduced. Little Hearts is a campaign to collect funds to expedite the construction of Lady Ridgeway Hospital’s Cardiac and Critical Care Complex which will provide timely treatment to children in need and help reduce one of the main causes of infant mortality in the country.

Rotary Clubs in Sri Lanka’s District 3220, have joined forces with compassionate individuals worldwide to amass a substantial fund that has so far transformed the lives of over 200 children with congenital heart disease (CHD).  The Cardiac and Critical Care Complex will also serve as a hub for excellence in paediatric cardiology, empowering medical professionals with training and education.

While thanking everyone for joining in this worthy cause of being a proud child heart warrior, Rukshan and Melantha are looking forward to a fun-filled evening going down memory lane in song.

Harmony for Little Hearts organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan, Colombo West, and Colombo Fort under the Rotary International District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 7 p.m. at the Bishop’s College auditorium.

Tickets priced at Rs. 6,000, 4,000 3,000 2000, and Balcony 1000 are available.
