The Buddhist approach to beauty reflected mainly in the Pali canon, stemming from the earliest period of Buddhist literary history and other relevant texts is an area that is yet to be systematically investigated.
In this study, the speaker will explore this issue mainly in the context of Western aesthetics. The speaker argues that Buddhism had a strong philosophical stand and thereby provided guidance for monastics and lay followers with the freedom to engage in art. The speaker hypothesizes that Buddhist art did not come into being without an ideological impact on the then-religious society.
