India offers 200 higher education scholarships to Lankan students
View(s):The Indian High Commission is calling for invitations for 200 fully-funded scholarships for Sri Lankan nationals to conduct studies at prestigious Indian institutes and universities.
However, medical, paramedical, fashion design and law courses would not be covered under the scholarship programme, the High Commission says.
Last week, the Education Times inadvertently said that the scholarship programme covered medical, paramedical, fashion design, and law courses.
The scholarships are offered exclusively to Sri Lankan nationals for the 2024–2025 academic session.
The three memorial scholarship schemes cover the fields of business, economics, commerce, humanities and arts, engineering, information technology science, and agriculture.
Accordingly, the Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme covers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses in domains such as engineering, science, business, economics, commerce, humanities, and the arts.
The Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme offers Master’s degree courses with a preference for engineering, science, and agriculture, while the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme offers undergraduate courses in the field of information technology, leading to a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Technology.
The scholarship schemes would cover the full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course, the monthly sustenance allowance, and the annual grant for books and stationery.
In addition, airfares to the nearest destination in India and an annual grant for educational tours to various parts of the country, apart from several other auxiliary benefits, are also offered. Selected candidates would also be provided with hostel facilities inside the respective campus.
The Indian government is to select meritorious Sri Lankan nationals for the award of these scholarships.
The selection of candidates is done in consultation with Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education.
Details are available on the website of the Ministry of Education at www.mohe.gov.lk. Interested applicants and their parents are advised to contact the Indian High Commission in Colombo (eduwing.colombo@mea.gov.in) or the Ministry of Education to learn more about eligibility criteria and selection procedures.
