Several charity projects mark the visit of Lions International President

The donation of 10 computers, laptops, and network cabling worth Rs 950,000 to a state school to update its computer laboratory has been among the projects of the Lions Club.

Six laptops donated by the Korean Lions of District 354B-Korea were handed over to the students of Kelaniya University recently.

A series of Lions Clubs International District 306 B-1 projects were carried out on January 31 opposite the Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo 2.

Lions International President Dr. Patti Hill arrived in Sri Lanka to witness and participate in various service projects undertaken by Lions clubs across the country.

The highlight of Dr. Hill’s visit was his active participation in several service projects initiated by the six districts in Sri Lanka, especially Lions District 306B1, headed by District Governor Placidus M. Peter.

From healthcare and education to environmental sustainability, District Governor Placidus M. Peter, together with International President Dr. Patti Hill, engaged in a diverse array of projects on the 31st of January at the grounds opposite the Gangarama temple, which reflected the district’s commitment to creating positive change.

Another impactful endeavour was the donation of Rs. 240,000 worth of 52 pairs of shoes to needy students. Apart from the distribution of books, shoes, and cash donations, a bicycle was donated to a Jaffna student whose father is a cancer patient. Emphasising the importance of education, another Rs 54,000 was donated to provide underprivileged students with basic essentials.

Environmental sustainability took centre stage during Dr. Hill’s visit, with Rs. 98,000 worth of 20 iron bins being donated for plastic disposal. The Hamilton Canal cleaning and the cleaning of the landing site at the fisheries harbour in Negombo also took place simultaneously.

Another notable project was a Rs 150,000 sponsorship for the sports meet of the School for the Hearing Impaired in Ratmalana.
