All eyes will be on Galle Face today as 6000 go marching by
View(s):Over 6000 security personnel, police, Civil defence Forces and National Cadet Corps are to take part in the 76th Independence Day clebrations at Galle Face today.
The final rehearsal was held yesterday.
Home Affairs Ministry secretary, Prdeep Yasaratne said that there are many events scheduled to mark the Independence Day in outstation areas too apart from the main event. He added that the celebration is being held under the theme “Abhimanwathwa Hadamu Aluth Ratak”.
The Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne said 111 officers and 3052 personnel from the Army, 63 officers and 950 sailors from the Sri Lanka Navy, and 67 officers and 688 airmen from the Air Force are taking part in today’s event.
Apart from that 289 police officers, 215 personnel from the Police Special Task force and 380 officers from the Civil Defence Department as well as 551 officers and cadets from the cadets corps would also take part.
The Independence Day parade will include a parade of armored vehicles. Apart from that three ships will sail past Galle Face while 19 Air Force aircraft will fly overhead.
Over 1500 policemen have been deployed to direct the traffic flow as Galle Road would be closed for traffic from Kollupitiya junction upto Galle Face and from Ceramic junction to Galle face. Pix by Indika Handuwala
