Freedom day pardon for 754 prisoners

The Prisons Department will release 754 prisoners today in view of  Independence Day, Prisons commissioner and media spokesman Gamini Bandara Dissanayake said.

He said in accordance with the powers vested in the President 729 male inmates and 25 female prisoners would be released from prisons, islandwide.

He also said the Prison Department had made special security arrangements for open visits allowing each inmate to receive three visitors, either family or friends.
