Tharushi Weerasinghe of the Sunday Times left this week to follow an advanced study course at MASCOM (Malayala School of Communications) as the recipient of the annual Lakshman Kadirgamar scholarship.

The scholarship is offered by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Foundation together with the Malayala Manorama Group of Newspapers in memory of the late Sri Lankan Foreign Minister to the winner of the Denzil Peiris Young Journalist of the Year award presented at the Journalism Awards for Excellence programme organised by The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Sri Lanka Press Institute at the Empire Ballroom of the Mt. Lavinia Hotel.

SriLankan Airlines sponsored Ms. Weerasinghe’s air travel to Kerala.

MASCOM is one of the leading journalism schools in India, and Ms. Weerasinghe is the tenth recipient of the scholarship.
