By June this year, schools up to GCE Advanced Level (A/L) Examination in the country will be digitised, allowing children to continue their education directly with new technology, Education Minister Dr Susil Premajayantha said.

Equality of educational opportunities for all children in the nation is the ministry’s goal, according to Minister Premajayantha.
Therefore all 3,000 schools that offer coursework up to the GCE A/L Examination will be digitalised and teacher preparation programmes will start in March of this year.

The minister added that all relevant schools will receive Smart Boards. He also mentioned that updates have been made to the computer resource centres that have been set up in each education zone.

Minister Premajayantha emphasised the importance of collective commitment for the development of the country’s education system.
He said he intends to visit all provinces in the coming weeks and inform all education authorities.

The minister made these remarks at a ceremony at Jaffna Hindu College on Monday (5) when it received Smart Boards.
Meanwhile, several initiatives to promote modern technology education were also launched in the North Central Province. All-in-one computers and Smart Boards were distributed to many rural schools, at the request of North Central Governor Maheepala Herath.
