Holistic development in students a must: Prime Minister
View(s):The significance of character and holistic development in students must be underlined in addition to the fundamentals of education, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has said.
The Prime Minister made these remarks on Wednesday (7) during the Central Board of Secondary Education Gulf Sahodaya (CBSE Gulf Sahodaya) of international school principals from Western Asia and the Middle East held in Colombo.
He praised Sri Lanka’s contributions to education across the Gulf region, Africa, and Asia.
He noted every educators’ tenacity to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic arriving at educational innovation, moving from traditional classrooms to forms of remote learning.
“Over the past three decades, this dedicated group of school principals has significantly improved education quality, enabling youth to achieve their aspirations,” he added.
It is imperative that the Government and educators work together to guarantee that no child is left behind, invest in their education, and allocate the funds fairly, the Prime Minister said.
“This duty is shared by policy-makers and educators alike. It is a team endeavour where all stakeholders, including communities and parents, must actively participate in it,” he noted.
Moreover, instilling virtues like honesty, empathy, and tolerance in young people is crucial for education, Prime Minister Gunawardena pointed out.
Preparing students for a rapidly changing world requires not only academic proficiency but also technological literacy, he said. (NA)
