Teachers not allowed to tutor their schoolchildren for additional fee
View(s):Teachers State schools in the Southern Province will be issued a circular that forbids them from bringing their students to the tuition classes where they are teaching.
Southern Province Governor Dr Willy Gamage said that he had instructed the Secretary of the Province’s Ministry of Education Ranjith Yapa on this.
Teachers employed by the Southern Province’s state-run schools will be subject to this new circular.
The Southern Provincial Education Ministry will directly undertake disciplinary investigations against the national school teachers who are disobeying its directives, and efforts will be made to expand its Special Investigation Unit in view of this, Dr Gamage said.
Teachers in violation of this circular will be reported to the Education Ministry.
Dr Gamage added that the decision was made to extend the law’s implementation to the Southern Province following a three-month research period in two other provinces.
