Saluting the first PM

Central Province Governor Lalith Gamage garlanded the statue of Sri Lanka’s first Prime Minister D S Senanayake at Maha Maluwa.
The ceremony was organised by the Kandy municipality, headed by Commissioner Ishan Wijetilleke in concurrence with Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
The Governor recalled the events leading to independence and said that everyone should appreciate the independence that has been gained and continue to help the State in its endeavour to work for the betterment of society.
Former mayor Kesera Senanayake, former opposition leader Sena Dissanayake and Basnayake Nilames of the four devales, Mahendra Ratwatte, Chanaka Bandaranaike, Hemantha Herath and Daminda Udurawana participated at the event and laid floral tributes at the statue of the late Prime Minister.
Representatives of the tri-forces were also present.
