The semi-finals stage of the LiNing Sri Lanka International Badminton Challenge 2024 came to end at the Dadella Indoor Complex in Galle with favourites and top ranked shutters making their way to the finals. The finals will be played today. However a few upsets occurred during yesterday’s qualifiers, which setoff from 10.00a.m. at the only international indoor facility available in the Galle district.

Indians Rithvik Satish Kumar and Kartikey Gulshan Kumar book themselves in Men’s Singles final, after the two semi-finals ended in contrasting fashion. The two qualifiers had three Indians and a Malaysian, as Satish Kumar earned a straightforward win against Malaysia’s Kok Jing Hong in the first qualifier. However Gulshan Kumar did not have it easy against compatriot Siddharth Pratap Singh, who stunned the high-ranked shuttler in the first set. But Gulshan Kumar unleashed his experience as a much seasoned player to gradually take the control and seal the game 2-1.

Similarly, Rakshitha Santhosh Ramraj and Isharani Baruah will meet in an all-Indian final in the Women’s Singles. Both finalists recorded easy wins in their respective semi-finals to book berths. Rakshitha Ramraj recorded a straight win against Thailand’s Thamonwan Nithiittikrai, where both sets ended with identical scores. Isharani Baruah, an experienced campaigner, did not have much trouble to beat Indonesia’s Ruzana Ruzana in straight sets.

Indonesia’s Rahmat Hidayat and Yacob Rambitan created an upset, when they toppled the top seeded pair from Malaysia and setup today’s Men’s Doubles final against the unseeded Bryan Jeremy Goonting and Fazriq Mohamed Razif, also from Malaysia.

India’s Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda will meet Thailand’s Pichamon Phatcharaphisutsin and Nannapas Sukklad in the Women’s Doubles final, after the finalists qualified beating their opponents comfortably in the semi-finals held yesterday. The Thai pair, seeded 210, recorded a massive upset when they easily overcame Malaysia’s Paula Lynn Hok and Lauren Lam, seeded 44, comfortably despite being challenged constantly. The Mixed Doubles final has been setup between favourites Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh of India and unseeded Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Chasinee Korepap of Thailand.

The BWF sanctioned international competition, which had the sponsorship from LiNing, Mobil, GAC, 3M, and McFoil will conclude today.
