Tourism to have a good summer this year
Hoteliers are awaiting a good summer this year with expectations of higher arrivals from key markets. Hoteliers Association President M. Shanthikumar said that the summer is “looking good” and they expect growth from a number of key markets like India, Russia and China.
The Indian market is growing and here they expect an increase in leisure, MICE and corporate traffic, he said. In 2023 there were 302, 844 Indian arrivals.
The Russian market is also growing and the numbers there too are increasing with a total of 197, 498 arriving last year; and with the Chinese traffic moving in there is likelihood that an increase in arrivals will surge. There were 68, 789 Chinese that arrived in 2023. Traditional markets like the UK and Germany are also expected to increase. Russians formed 14 per cent of the tourist traffic last year.
Mr. Shanthikumar also said that an increase in revenue was generated following the implementation of the minimum rates.
Hotels of all categories from two to five stars have seen an increase in their revenues by more than 30 per cent, he said.
It was pointed out that this system was introduced as it was the need of the hour.
