Visitor numbers on the rise

Sri Lanka has been receiving an average of over 7,000 tourists a day in recent weeks.

A total of 208,253 foreigners had visited the country during the month of January. This month, as of 18 February 2024, an average of 7,707 tourists have arrived.

When considering year-on-year statistics provided by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Board (SLTDA), January saw an increase of tourists of 103.8 percent.

Looking at country-wise visitor statistics, Indians have dominated arrivals with over 34,000 during January.

Russians and British visitors are the next highest numbers. Region-wise, European arrivals are at 60.3 percent and visitors from the Asia Pacific region are at 33.1 percent.

During 2023, a total of 1,487,303 tourists arrived in the country.
