Pradeep Ratnayake returns to stage with ‘Invocation: Pradeepanjalee XVII’

Sri Lankan audiences will once again be able to listen to the musical genius of Pradeep Ratnayake at his latest concert, ‘Invocation: Pradeepanjalee XVII’ at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. (No 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8).
Pradeep will be accompanied by Dr. Ravibandhu Vidayapati on ghatam/pakwaj/kohl/getabera; Professor Karunaratne Bandara on ghatam/udakki/tammatama; and Peshala Manoj on tabla.
The programme, lasting a little over an hour, will include an ‘Invocation’ on sitar and pakhawaj; ‘Home Soil’ with sitar, tabla, kohl, and udakki; ‘Roots’ with sitar, tabla, tammatama, getabera, and ghatam; ‘Raga’ with panchamse ghara, sitar and tabla; and ‘Wind’ with sitar, tabla, ghatam, and pakwaj.
An internationally acclaimed sitarist and composer, Pradeep has performed at Carnegie Hall, New York, Walt Disney Theatre, Los Angeles, and at the BOZAR, Brussels. His Kuveni Concerto for Sitar and Cello premiered in Germany in 2010 and his compositions have been played in many countries. He founded the Department of Music and Creative Technology in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
