YMWL Golden Jubilee celebration
View(s):The Young Muslim Women’s League (YMWL) marks 50 years of service to society with its Golden Jubilee celebration to be held on February 28 at the BMICH.
According to a statement issued by the association, 50 years ago a small group of young, energetic and active ladies started the association with a solemn determination to be of service to the less privileged in society.
As years passed by and the number of members increased, the League consolidated and diversified its activities, with the active participation of members working as one unified team. The League has achieved its objectives to a great extent. Its motto- ‘Give from what you love’ has been the cornerstone of this League, as seen from the varying projects undertaken during the past 50 years. They include maintenance of the Kalubowila Hospital’s Ward 11; a creche for children of poor working mothers; an educational trust with scholarships for deserving students in the national universities; relief work during the tsunami; herbal porridge for pregnant mothers and elderly ladies, etc.
The League has plans to continue its work in the years ahead.
