Northern Province Milo Football Champs 2024 kicks off
View(s):The first phase of Milo Football Champs 2024 for the Under-10 and Under-12 age categories, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Nestlé Milo, is to be held in all five districts of the Northern Province during the next few weeks.
The games are scheduled to be held in Mannar district on February 24, in Mullaitivu district on March 2, in Vavuniya district on March 9, in Kilinochchi district on March 16 and in Jaffna district on March 22.
With a participation of 250 teams, inclusive of 3,750 players from all five districts, this has been recorded as the highest number of players taking part in a Provincial Football Programme. After the district rounds, the top 16 teams, comprising both girls’ and boys’ teams from each age category, will advance to the final round.
The final round will feature a total of 80 teams, including 1,200 players, which is scheduled to take place at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna on March 23.
Unleashing the potential of future football stars, the Milo Football Champs Programme aims to ignite the sportsmanship skills of aspiring athletes in the Northern Province. Alongside the tournament, a select group of talented individuals will receive specialised training on weekends over the coming months, guided by seasoned coaches from the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.
With the support of the Ministry of Education, Northern Province Department of Education, and the sponsorship of Nestlé Milo, the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association will manage the facilitation of this programme. Nestlé MILO, in its journey towards fostering grassroot sports in Sri Lanka and championing gender diversity in sports, sponsors this programme with a vision of nourishing the future generations of Sri Lanka.
