Hit maker, singer, actor and Sri Lankan icon Alston Koch landed in Colombo last week to perform  at ’Double blue Symphony Orchestra’  for his alma-mater – Wesley College’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

As part of its 150th anniversary celebrations this year, Wesley College – Colombo will host the ‘Shelton Wirasinha Oration’ at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 6th March at the College Hall. The Oration will be delivered by distinguished old boy of the College and well-renowned tax specialist N.R. Gajendran, and is open to the public.

This will fallowed by musical presentation

Alston flew on SriLankan Airlines to Colombo and swears it was his most pleasant flight. At the airport when asked as to ‘how it felt to be on Sri Lankan Airlines these days he quipped back saying  ‘I wouldn’t want to be on any other airline’.

‘I was really keen to come for the celebrations, as I always have a special place for my dear his alma-mater. I don’t want to miss the festivities’ he said.

Meeting with old time friend the current ceremonial King David Kalakaua of Hawaii, Alston boarded a flight to Melbourne and then after a few hours in Austarlia, left for Colombo in a hurry.

Loyal to college he attended and always the refined and intelligent, Alston was a prize winning scholar year after year at Wesley College. He really disappointed his parents when he exchanged the scalpel to pursue in his ‘dream of pop music and hit making career in music’

A quick search of his past on ‘Google or Wikipedia’ shows his
success worldwide.

Undoubtably, the only Sri Lankan in the history of Pop Music to break into the music charts internationally on a recognised record label with his self-written hit song ‘Disco Lady’ for RCA was an achievement.

More than a dozen international releases on R.C.A (Elvis Presley’s record label) SONY Lifestyle, ARISTA ARIOLA, BMG and EMI records spanning the globe, he was lauded in the international media as ‘Asia’s King of Pop’.

Carrying away ‘The Best Actor’ award for his portrayal of Fr. Matthew Pieris in the film ‘According to Matthew’, alongside Bollywood star and Sri Lankan actress Jacqui Fernandez in this ground breaking film qualified for  selection at the Academy Awards (The Oscars).

He was also appointed as Global Ambassador for Sri Lanka Tourism and led the great ‘Climate Change’ effort by Sri Lanka Tourism in 2004 with a beautiful song ‘Can We Take This Climate Change’ applauded by the British Ministers at the WTM in London.
