Lecture by Kamal Addara Arachchi on ‘Identity of Modern Art’

A very productive and successful lecture on the Identity of Modern Art was held recently at the MJF Auditorium, Katubedde, Moratuwa. It was organized by the Moratuwa Arts Forum and the Moratuwa Council of the Regional Office. The guest speaker at the lecture was veteran theatre award winning artiste Kamal Addara Arachchi. It was a very informative lecture which went on for over an hour. In attendance at the lecture was  Shama Cooray, Cultural Officer of the Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat as well as actors, singers, announcers, journalists and others who are connected to the field of arts. The children of Kusinara International School also participated at this programme. The contents of the lecture delivered by Kamal Addara Arachchi was of immense value to the upcoming generation of artistes and to the children of Moratuwa who attended.

Commencing the programme, well known musician and performer Melantha Perera who needs no introduction, who is the President of the Moratuwa Arts Forum, spoke to the audience about the lecture and introduced the guest speaker. Thereafter Shama Cooray followed by Shashira Rajapaksa spoke to the audience and welcomed them. The compere for the event was Hamilton Fernando and the music was provided by Sarana Gunarathne. A special dance act was performed by the students of Suranga Academy headed by Varuni Cooray.

After a very interesting lecture Kamal Addara Arachchi sang a couple of songs at the request of the audience. The audience also sang some songs in appreciation to the guest speaker. A well known singer from Moratuwa Jagath Devapriya also sang a few songs. Concluding a very productive and entertaining evening, Pruthuvi Rajapaksa delivered the vote of thanks. The organisers wish to convey their heartfelt appreciation to Rehana Wettasinghe, Kevin De Silva and the staff at the MJF centre for providing the facilities for the event.
