Gateway’s Shanella earns ‘Best Female Athlete’ award for fifth consecutive year at ISAC 2024

Shanella Seneviratne of Gateway College won the ‘Ritzbury Challenge Trophy’ for the Best Female Athlete at ISAC 2024 which concluded last weekend at the Sugathadasa Stadium. This is the fifth consecutive year that Gateway College won this award. The previous winners were national athletic champions produced by Gateway Colombo, Randi Cooray (2018), Shelinda Jansen (2019 and 2020) and Dinara Bandara Dela (2023).

Shanella also won the ‘Royal Institute Challenge Trophy’ awarded to the Under-20 Girls champion. She produced a performance of 12.20secs in the Under-20 Girls 100m to win these two awards. She also won the 200m in her age group and was part of the 4x100m relay team that won the gold medal.

Gateway College Colombo proved their supremacy at ISAC 2024 by securing 22 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 24 bronze medals. Gateway College Kandy too did well by securing four gold medals, four silver medals and five bronze medals. Gateway Colombo athletes also won three age group championships with Ashain Theverapperuma claiming the Under-14 Boys, Nehansa Paranaliyanage winning the Under-18 Girls and Shanella Seneviratne being crowned the Under-20 Girls awards. Ashain won three gold medals with three new meet records in the 100m, Long Jump and High Jump events. He produced impressive jumps of 6.05m and 1.66m to establish the new meet records in the Long Jump and High Jump events. Gateway Kandy athlete Saad Faleel won the Under-18 Boys championship. Gateway Colombo also won the Under-12 and Under-14 overall championships to prove their dominance in the junior category.

Other top achievers of Gateway included Sethun Perera, Dulain Theverapperuma, Christiyan Dabarera, Tiana Gabbalage, Ranuki Vonara, Sithuli Saparamadu, Shenaya Siriwardena, who won a gold each, Jadon Edwin, with two gold medals and Shenuki Jayasundara, who claimed a gold with a meet record. Six relay teams of Gateway also won gold medals. Mihin Attanayake and Sanuga Pihiliagga were the gold medalists for Gateway Kandy.
