Second phase of Mullaitivu Milo Football Champs 2024 concludes

The second phase of the Northern Province Milo Football Champs 2024 for Under-10 and Under-12 age categories, was held in the Mullaitivu District last weekend. The games had a participation of 32 teams in total, comprising of 14 girls teams and 18 boys teams.

Emerging victorious this weekend, the winning teams from the Mullaitivu district were Udayaarkaddu Government Tamil Mix School in Girls Under-10 while its Boys segment was won by Iranaippalai Roman Catholic Maha Vidyalaya. The Girls Under-12 category was won by Mullaitivu Roman Catholic Girls School as Mullaitivu Maha Vidyalaya claimed the Boys Under-12 segment.

From this weekend’s event 16 more teams will join the highly anticipated final round, scheduled to be held at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna on March 23. They are Udayaarkaddu Government Tamil Mixed School, Alampil Roman Catholic Maha Vidyalaya, Muththaiyankadda (Idathukarai) Government Tamil Mix School and Kuravil Tamil Vidyalaya in Girls Under-10 and Iranaippalai Roman Catholic Maha Vidyalaya, Alampil Roman Catholic Maha Vidyalaya, Kuravil Tamil Vidyalaya and Chilavathai Tamil Vidyalaya in Boys Under-10.

Mullaitivu Roman Catholic Girls School, Alampil Roman Catholic Maha Vidyalaya, Kumulamunai Maha Vidyalaya and Udayarkaddu Maha Vidyalaya have qualified from the Girls Under-12 category, joined by Mullaitivu Maha Vidyalaya, Chilavathai Tamil Vidyalaya, Kompavil Vikeneswara Vidyalaya and Kuravil Tamil Vidyalaya from the Boys Under-12 category.

Unleashing the potential of future football stars, the Milo Football Champs programme aims to ignite the sportsmanship skills of aspiring athletes in the Northern province. Alongside the tournament, a select group of talented individuals will receive specialised training on weekends over the coming months, guided by seasoned coaches from the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.

With the support of the Ministry of Education, Northern Province Department of Education, and the sponsorship of Nestlé Milo, the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association will manage the facilitation of this programme. Nestlé Milo, in its journey towards fostering grassroot sports in Sri Lanka and championing gender diversity in sports, sponsors this programme with a vision of nourishing the future generations of Sri Lanka.
