Open train carriage to hit upcountry rails soon

The Ratmalana Railway Yard has come up with a novel idea of an open observation carriage for travellers to take in the scenic beauty when travelling upcountry.
A 50-year-old Romanian compartment has been used for this carriage, which was built at a cost of Rs. 30 Mn. It also has a well equipped canteen.
There are no seats in the
special observation compartment, only hand rails.
Railway officials said there
are plans to manufacture another carriage in the same lines.
Railways Gneral Manager
H. M. K.W.Bandara said this open observation carriage will be used for short distance travels along the Ella rail line.
