Royal Institute shine at All-Island Novices Aquatic Championship 2024
View(s):Royal Institute International School (RI) students dived into victory at the All-Island Novices Aquatic Championship 2024, organised by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU). The talented young swimmers showcased their skills and determination, bringing home numerous medals. The school who are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication of their watersports team, also secured the overall third place in Girls and overall fifth place in Boys.
Nathasha de Alwis was the most successful out of all with her feats in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle events, where she was placed first in all three, while emerging the Under-14 Girls Champion. Deelaka Anuhas Rupanjanage won the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events and while placing third in the 100m Freestyle event.
Lithuka Vidujitha Jayakody finished second in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events.
Minurya Sheneli Perera was placed second in the 50m Breaststroke event as Nishil Wijesinghe was placed third in the 50m Butterfly event, alongside Sithuka Hirujitha Jayakody, who was placed third in the 50m Freestyle event.
Sahansa de Zoysa managed to finish fourth in the 50m Breaststroke event while Risara Kottage and Nisini Herath achieved their best qualifying times in the 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events. The RI swimmers are trainer by Rukshan Manjula, their Head Coach with the able assistance of the Swimming Teacher in-Charge, Sewwnadi Bandara.
