Lanka to donate US$ 1 million to Gaza children next week
View(s):The Sri Lankan Government’s donation of US $1 million for the “Children of Gaza Fund” in aid of Gaza violence victims launched recently will be handed over to the UN agencies next week.
The funds would be used to assist the affected children in Gaza by providing them with medicine and food, the President’s Media Division said.
The PMD announced that all ministries and government institutions have been directed to forego Iftar events and to contribute to this fund.
The Presidential Secretariat has urged donations from citizens for the “Children of Gaza Fund” during the month of Ramadan.
More than Rs five million has been received for the fund. The donations include Rs three million from businessman L.R. Page and a donation of Rs 500,000 from the Eastern Province Governor, Senthil Thondaman.
The donations could be sent to the bank account of 7040016 at Bank of Ceylon (7010), Taprobane Branch (747) by April 11, 2024.
