Open verdict on death of girl who fell sick after attending party
View(s):An open verdict has been returned over the death of a 27-year-old girl who fell ill and passed away after attending a private party in Yakkalamulla, Galle.
The party had been organised for a friend by a newlywed couple. Suduweli Kondage Isanga Prasadini, too, had attended the party around 2 p.m.
According to Prasadini’s mother, Baranige Dayani, her daughter had complained of chest pains after returning from the party around 6 p.m. She had told her mother she was reluctant to go to a doctor as she had consumed two glasses of beer.
However, as the pain continued, Dayani took her daughter to the Ahangama Gonnagahahena rural hospital. From there, she was transferred to Karapitiya Hospital. Around 8 p.m., she passed away while receiving treatment.
A friend of the deceased who also consumed beer, Jayasinghe Hewage Maheshi, had told the coronor’s court inquiry that Prasadini and she had consumed beer together. She added that they had beer from separate bottles and had enjoyed the party.
The Judicial Medical Officer who
carried out the postmortem inquiry, H.D. Weeraththna, said that urine
samples from the deceased as well as her friend had been sent to the Government Analyst Department, and they were awaiting the reports.
The inquirer into sudden deaths, Amal Gamini Thilakarathne, had given an open verdict, citing the fact that a final verdict could not be given without government analyst reports.
He requested the family not to cremate the body and to bury it.
