Kilinochchi phase of Milo Football Champs comes to end
View(s):The fourth installment of the Milo Football Champs 2024 of Northern Province, for the Under-10 and Under-12 categories, was held in the Kilinochchi District last weekend. This segment had a participation of 22 teams in total, comprising six girls’ teams and 16 boys’ teams.
From the Under-10 segment Thiruvaiyaru Maha Vidyalaya and Iranaitheevu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School were exceptional while from the Under-12 category Vivekanantha Maha Vidyalaya and Iranaitheevu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School emerged as the best from the region. After the completion of fourth week’s Milo Football Champs in the Northern Province, a total of 11 teams from both age groups qualified for the grand finals to be held in Jaffna.
While Thiruvaiyaru Maha Vidyalaya was the only school to qualify for the final from the Under-10 Girls’ segment, Iranaitheevu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School and Thiruvaiyaru Maha Vidyalaya advanced to the finals from the Under-10 Boys’.
The Under-12 age group had a full participation in which the quota of four teams each qualified for the finals in Jaffna. The Girls’ teams to reach the final stage were Vivekanantha Maha Vidyalaya, Thiruvaiyaru Maha Vidyalaya, Vaddakachi Central College and
St. Theresa Girls College, while from the Boys’ segment Iranaitheevu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School, Kumulamunai Government Tamil Mixed School, Kilinochchi Central College and Valaippadu Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School made it through to the finals.
Unleashing the potential of future football stars, the Milo Football Champs programme aims to ignite the sportsmanship skills of aspiring athletes in the Northern Province. Alongside the tournament, a select group of talented individuals will receive specialised training on weekends over the coming months, guided by seasoned coaches from the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.
With the support of the Ministry of Education, Northern Province Department of Education, and the sponsorship of Nestlé Milo, the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association manages the facilitation of this programme.
