Three senior SLFPers lose posts, vow to challenge party decision in court
View(s):Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and parliamentarian Duminda Dissanayake yesterday vowed to take legal action against the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) for removing them from their positions in the party without prior notice.
The MPs held the positions of senior vice president, treasurer, and national organiser of the party, respectively.
They were removed from their positions at an Executive Committee meeting held yesterday at the party headquarters.
The party appointed Sarath Ekanayake as senior vice president, Hector Bethmage as treasurer, and K.P. Gunawardena as national organiser.
Minister Amaraweera was formally sacked from the SLFP on June 1, 2022, for accepting cabinet positions, but returned to the party later.
Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, also a senior vice president, said the three members were removed from their positions for expressing views against party decisions.
He said they had only been removed from the positions they held but not sacked from the party.
