Exploring opposing forces through her art

Art is chaos taking shape, said the great Pablo Picasso. For Avanthi Jayasinghe, just as in art, life is chaos taking beautiful shape too.

“Chaos Rendered” Avanthi’s exhibition of paintings will be on at the Fareed Uduman Art Forum’s SKY Gallery from April 5-7. A counselling psychologist by profession, Avanthi completed her PhD at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, researching on the evolution of Christian art in
Sri Lanka, with a special focus on the Christian works of David Paynter.

Chaos is a fact of life. It can make life unbelievably messy, but also beautiful. Chaos, often perceived as disorder and randomness, has always been for Avanthi a catalyst for artistic exploration, to harness meaning, beauty, and transcendence into the fabric of existence.

Avanthi Jayasinghe: Seeing beauty in chaos

The series of paintings in this exhibition represent the idea that wholeness, completion, and resolution can emerge from seemingly disordered backdrops that can oftentimes be likened to our own life stories. Positive aspects that we strive for such as love, joy and serenity are all a dynamic continuum rather than a static state of being and this flow can only be achieved by accepting that chaos not only exists, but it can be used as a vehicle for growth.

As an artist, Avanthi is deeply inspired by the interplay between chaos and order, light and darkness, and the myriad complexities of the human experience. Through her work, she seeks to explore the dynamic tension between these opposing forces, inviting viewers to contemplate the beauty and fragility of existence.

“Chaos Rendered” is on at SKY GALLERY from April 5-7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m each day. Visitors please note
that there is a stairway to climb up to the gallery.
