The Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) announced the 90th anniversary of the iconic Mahagastotte Hill Climb which is scheduled to take place in the misty hills of Nuwara Eliya on April 6 and 7, 2024. ACBT, Sri Lanka’s premier higher education establishment, will be the title sponsor for this historic instalment of the storied event.

The latest chapter in this partnership between ACBT and CMSC will extend that support beyond the grassroots level, with Mahagastotte’s historic 90th running. In addition to the much-loved hill climb, ACBT will continue to assist CMSC throughout the 2024 season, partnering with a series of club-organised events. These will include the 2024 KartFight Championship, 2024 Karting Slalom Championship, and 2024 Ranjit Jinasena Auto Cross Championship. Additionally, ACBT and CMSC will join hands in promoting the most cost-effective and accessible way into motorsport, with several eSport events planned for the year. Esport events encourage the youth of the country to ‘come and try’ their skills at both driving and riding.

Co-sponsoring the 90th Mahagastotte Festival of Speed are Nippon Paint, Speedbay, The Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya, The Blackpool Hotel, Lal and Nihal Engineering, Mobil Lubricants, McFoil, 3M, Meguiars, DSI Mineral Water, Drive Green, and Satva Automobile.

This meet will be the season opener in Nuwara Eliya, with motorbikes taking to the track on the April 6, and modern racing cars vying for the fastest time up the hill on April 7.

The parade of historic cars will run from Colombo on Friday and arrive in Nuwara Eliya, where an exhibition will take place at the Lake Gregory car park. From there, they will leave for a parade around the Nuwara Eliya town, before setting runs at the Mahagastotte Hill Climb track. The meet for the timed sessions for positions will commence at 8.00a.m. on April 6 and 7.

Australian College of Business Technology (ACBT) offers an integrated pathway into Edith Cowan University – Australia and Middlesex University — UK undergraduate degrees through a wide range of university foundation programmes, accredited diplomas, and advanced diplomas. ACBT’s professionally focused degree programmes provide an opportunity for Sri Lankan students to earn an Australian or UK degree from Sri Lanka at an affordable price, or to transfer to many other Navitas-partnered universities in Australia, UK and other countries.

It’s not the first time ACBT has recognised the value of Sri Lankan motorsports, with the education institute having partnered with CMSC and SpeedBay for the ACBT KartFight Championship 2024 — a four-round championship held to cultivate grassroots motorsport through the most accessible form of karting.

ACBT has been the pioneer in Australian Higher Education in Sri Lanka since 1998 and is partnered by the world-renowned Navitas group, with 130 colleges around the world in over 31 countries.
