Colombo crush Kandy with a day to spare
Showing complete dominance, Colombo crushed Kandy by an innings and 21 runs with a day to spare in their National Super League four day cricket tournament match concluded at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Kandy, in reply to Colombo’s massive score of 500 runs, were bowled for 199 runs in their first innings. They began the day on 152 for 5 but lost the remaining five wickets for 47 runs to conceded a massive first innings lead of 301.
Made to follow on and left with the task of erasing a massive deficit to avoid an innings defeat, Kandy managed only 280 runs on the back of a fine century by skipper Niroshan Dickwella.
Galle was on top against Dambulla when play stopped on day three in the other match played at Galle. Dambulla, resuming from their overnight score of 132 for 5, went on to make 280. This was in reply to Galle’s score of 425 runs. Batting for the second time, Galle ended the day making 143 for 4. This match will continue today.
