Matara Thomians prevail with close win

St. Thomas’ College, Matara prevailed with a close 3-wicket win over traditional rivals St. Servatius College in the 24th Battle of the Blues limited over cricket encounter played at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara yesterday.

The low scoring match saw the Servatians taking first lease of the wicket being bowled out for 117 runs. Raveen Kavintha top scored for the Servatians with a resolute and unbeaten 22, while Loshitha Diksith, Pesandu Sanjan, Manuga Guruge and Navija de Saram claimed two wickets apiece for the Thomians.

Pesandu Sanjan returned to top scored for the Thomians with an unbeaten knock of 41 in their run chase as they underwent some anxious moments before racing to the target in the 33rd over. Jimuth Iddamalgoda remained unbeaten on 22 for the winners, who lost seven wickets on the way to victory. Viran Chanmuditha picked four wickets and Raveen Kavintha claimed three, sharing all Thomians wickets between them, but to no avail.
