Jaffna responds boldly; potential result at Dambulla
Jaffna responded boldly reaching 316 for 4 after Galle declared their mammoth overnight score of 711 for 9 at the end of the third day’s play in the four-day National Super League tournament held at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Jaffna’s reply was fueled by half centuries from Ron Chandragupta (66), Janith Liyanage (62), and an unbeaten 80 by Lahiru Madusanka. They forged three crucial partnerships — a 74-run partnership for the third wicket between Chandragupta and Liyanage, a 75-run stand for the fourth wicket between Liyanage and Madusanka, and an unbroken 92-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Madusanka and Santhush Gunatileke, is one run short of a well-deserved half century.
Meanwhile, Kandy positioned themselves strongly to clinch their third outright victory as they had Dambulla struggling at 128 for 3, chasing 385 runs for victory when play ended on the third day at Dambulla.
Kandy, starting their second innings at 156 for 4, went on to score 315 runs with Raveen Yasas top scoring with 83. He shared a crucial 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket with skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe, who contributed 45 runs. The matches will end today.
