Winds of war far from their minds as diplomats take a shot at Avurudu games

While the rest of the world is on edge over fears of World War III, the diplomatic community in

Sri Lanka put differences between their respective governments aside yesterday to come together to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The New Year celebrations were organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held at the Police Park Grounds in Colombo.

The diplomats played Avurudu games including elle, while others could not let go of their love of cricket. There was also the crowning of the Avurudu Kumaraya and Kumari.

The world may yet go to war tomorrow, but for a few hours at least in Colombo, those fears seemed far away.
